Building on six months of debate on what we want from "our" BBC, the openDemocracy project OurBeeb held a one-day forum on 31st October at King's College London. The four panel sessions addressed vital issues of engagement, plurality and democracy in the BBC we all pay for, and all want the best from. We now publish the audio of all the sessions in full, with accompanying video. Session 1: Funding and the licence fee
The first session of the OurBeeb forum began with a discussion between David Elstein and Lis Howell on how to fund public service broadcasting.
Session 2: accountability and the Savile scandal
The second session of OurBeeb’s day-forum at King’s College London asked Gerald Kaufman, Dan Hind and Anthony Barnett to present their arguments for establishing a new method of accountability in the BBC, fit for the digital age.
Session 3: pluralism and current affairs
The third session of the OurBeeb forum at King’s College London saw Iain Overton, Tom Mills, Natalie Fenton and Claire Bolderson challenge the BBC’s claims to impartiality while suggesting ways of redefining journalistic ‘truth’.
